I cannot believe that one month has already gone by with our Maelee. We are having a lot of fun being a mommy and daddy, it really is the best job in the world. There has definitely been an adjustment going on around here and some of it has not been very easy, but it was to be expected. We have a really good days, and our not so easy days, but we just take it one day at a time.
I just have to say breastfeeding is HARD work! I envy the moms that stick with it, it has only been one month and I have almost thrown in the towel several times. I get so worried and frustrated. Since she is such a sleepy baby, you cannot do anything, and I mean ANYTHING to keep her awake while feeding. She loves all the tricks that the lactation specialist showed us and they just put her even more to sleep!! I am sure she is doing just fine, she hasn't lost any weight that I know of so I am just trying to stay positive. I can't believe how much time it takes, every two hours comes so quick, especially with how long it takes her to feed since she won't stay awake, I feel like that is all I do all day is feed her. I am sticking with it though!! I can do it!
I am doing really well. I am still recovering from surgery. For the last week and a half I have had a bump on my incision. I thought this was just scar tissue that was building up and so I ignored it. Well for this week or so I have also been in an extreme amount of pain. I can't stand up straight, it hurts to walk, pretty much everything I do bothers it. Well I woke up this morning and found out why. WARNING: THE NEXT FEW SENTENCES ARE GROSS SO SKIP THE REST OF THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. When I woke up I found out that the bump is infection. So I started pushing on my entire incision and I swear gallons of drainage came out, it was never ending, the smell would be enough to make you pass out. So the doctor's orders are to get in a hot bath 3 times a day! I was actually really excited about this because I have not gotten in the bath since before I had her and I looooovvve to take baths! So it's still draining and I have been relaxing in the tub. I am already starting to feel better. I see my doctor tomorrow and can't wait to make sure everything is okay.
Maelee has been a pretty easy baby. She is still sleeping most of the day so I wake her up every two hours to eat during the day and about every four hours at night, which is only once a night for me because I go to bed so stinkin late. She rarely ever wakes us up on her own we are always having to wake her up. I love the time when she is awake, she is always just chatting away and telling me her stories. She is just a doll. Every day it seems like she stays awake more and more and I love it. Her skin has not stopped "flaking" and we have moved on to BABY ACNE. Ugh I hate it!! I feel so sorry for her! I just want it to go away. She also started loosing her hair up front. So she has a bald spot on the front of her head, it's pretty funny.
So I wanted to get those onesies with the month on them and take a picture of her, but I didn't find them in time so her one month won't have that but I am planning on doing it for the rest of her month pictures.
Things we love about Maelee at one month
- She makes the absolute cutest faces ever! I think I see a new face every day!
- When you stick out your tongue at her she likes to copy you and sticks her tongue right back out.. Maybe I shouldn't be teaching her this! But it's just so dang cute!
- She is NOISY! When she eats she hums and grunts the whole time. After she eats she grunts and makes all kind of noises (probably trying to go potty). When she is awake she talks to me like crazy! Making all kinds of noises!
- When the room is dark, she opens her eyes so SO big so she can see everything better! It is hilarious! Her eyes are so big!
-She is a wiggle worm! I know I say that she sleeps a lot, but when she is awake, she never stops moving and is always trying to look behind her to see what is going on.
- This is probably a bad habit but when I wake her up in the morning we go back to my big bed and just stare at eachother with our noses together.. Then we usually fall back to sleep. It is the best waking up next to her!
- She loves the heating pad. After we get her out of the bath we set her on it and she is in heaven!
-I love her face when she is half asleep and her binky starts to fall out of her mouth, it's the cutest thing you have ever seen.
- When you put her on her tummy she just kicks her legs like crazy like she wants to crawl somewhere.
There are way too many favorite things to list. I just feel so lucky to have her and love her to pieces!

I am so sorry that you are still in the healing process and that your incision has become infected. I am glad that it is not bad enough for a drain just a few hot baths. Breastfeeding does get easier I promise. Just stick with it. I too was very frustrated wondering if Bodee was getting enough and he had a very very hard time latching at first. Once he was on he was on good, but I had to buy a nipple shield. We are now done with that he is a fab eater. Makes my life easy. Jesse was a very very hard eater. So I pumped and bottle fed for five months. That is as long as I lasted doing that. So I am determined to do it naturally this time. Thus far we are doing pretty good. I just have to trust that Bodee knows what he is doing and he is getting what he needs. As long as he has gained weight by his two week appt I think I will not worry as much. I am so glad that you are loving being a mommy. It is a huge adjustment, but completely worth it. The hardest job in the world, but the most rewarding. Enjoy all the little moments for they are only small for a moment.
